Exciting news for Power Rangers fans: a new live-action series is reportedly in the works for Disney+. According to The Wrap, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the showrunners behind the acclaimed Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, are in discussions to helm this project in collaboration with 20th Century TV. This development aims to breathe fresh life into the beloved franchise while ensuring it resonates with both new viewers and long-time enthusiasts.

Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers brand, acquired it from Saban Properties in 2018 for $522 million. At the time of the acquisition, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, expressed enthusiasm about the brand's potential, highlighting plans to expand Power Rangers across various platforms, including toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, and entertainment, on a global scale.

The franchise, which became iconic with the '90s TV show The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, captured the imaginations of children worldwide with its teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs that could combine into a giant robot. Despite a failed attempt at a darker reboot with the 2017 movie, which did not perform well at the box office and led to the cancellation of planned sequels, Hasbro remains committed to revitalizing the brand.

In addition to the Power Rangers project, Hasbro is also venturing into other ambitious adaptations. Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms, as well as an animated Magic: The Gathering series. These projects reflect Hasbro's broader strategy to leverage its extensive portfolio of popular IPs across different media formats.
