11 Bit Studios, the acclaimed Polish developer, has unveiled a new trailer for their highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its 2025 release date. In this latest update, the studio took a nostalgic look back at one of their most celebrated projects, the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which garnered them international acclaim over a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing ambiance, The Alters introduces a more vibrant and frequently humorous storyline, focusing on the trials faced by alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep thematic link between the two games.
Although This War of Mine and The Alters differ significantly in their settings and atmospheres, both are fundamentally about survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the grim realities of war within a besieged city, where they must manage resources and overcome daily challenges to ensure the survival of their group. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a frantic race against time, with players needing to continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the destructive path of a relentless sun that turns everything to dust.
Both titles challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into dangerous territories in pursuit of scarce resources. The primary distinction between the two lies in their protagonists: This War of Mine involves guiding a group of ordinary civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique ensemble made up of different versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated to launch in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, ensuring a wide audience can experience this innovative survival adventure.
