Amazon has introduced Alexa+, a new and improved version of the Alexa voice assistant, which is now available in early access. This upgrade, powered by generative AI, promises a more natural and fluid conversation experience. Amazon describes Alexa+ as being "more conversational, smarter, personalized – and she helps you get things done." If you're interested in trying out this enhanced assistant, you can currently access it on select Echo Show devices, including the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21. To be notified when early access opens, you can sign up using the link provided below.
After the early access phase, Alexa+ will be offered as a free benefit for Amazon Prime members, or for a monthly fee of $19.99 for those without a Prime subscription.
With its conversational approach, Alexa+ allows you to ask it anything that comes to mind, helping you with a range of tasks such as managing your to-do list, retrieving specific details from your calendar, and even booking a restaurant. Amazon's Alexa+ Early Access page mentions that "new features are being added regularly," suggesting that more capabilities will be revealed following the early access period.
However, not all devices are compatible with Alexa+. Older generation Echo devices like the Echo Dot 1st Gen, Echo 1st Gen, Echo Plus 1st Gen, Amazon Tap, Echo Show 1st Gen, Echo Show 2nd Gen, and Echo Spot 1st Gen will continue to use the original Alexa. Amazon has indicated plans to expand Alexa+ compatibility to more devices, including Fire TV, Fire tablets, and Alexa.com, in the near future.
