Amazon’s upcoming God of War TV series, even before its premiere, has already been greenlit for two seasons, according to showrunner Ronald D. Moore. Moore stepped in after the departure of Rafe Judkins, Hawk Ostby, and Mark Fergus. In a conversation with Battlestar Galactica co-star Katee Sackhoff, Moore revealed his involvement, stating, "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of…a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in. So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing." He admitted a lack of personal gaming experience beyond classic arcade titles like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede, humorously recounting his struggles with modern controllers: "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," he joked.
Moore's role encompasses writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His extensive credits include Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the acclaimed 2000s Battlestar Galactica. While some original team members departed, Sony's Cory Barlog remains as executive producer. The series will adapt the critically acclaimed 2018 God of War game.
Amazon's track record of quickly renewing successful video game adaptations, such as the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, suggests a positive outlook for God of War's streaming future.
