The Blood of Dawnwalker's game reveal event unveiled details about this highly anticipated open-world dark fantasy action-RPG. Dive in to learn more!
The January 16th reveal event shed light on the narrative-driven gameplay. Players embody Coen, a Dawnwalker navigating a fictional 14th-century Medieval European world, Vale Sangora. Narrative director Jakub Szamalek describes Coen as an unconventional protagonist: "He’s a young guy who at heart is emotional, he can get vulnerable, he’s honest about how he feels." The trailer depicts Coen's confrontation with Brencis, an ancient vampire controlling Vale Sangora. Coen's mission: save his family within 30 days and nights. While the game features a time constraint, developers emphasize extended gameplay hours.
The trailer showcases Coen's superhuman abilities—a result of his vampiric nature—including impressive agility and magical prowess. Many fan questions remain unanswered, but Rebel Wolves addressed several on their official Discord server.
The FAQ clarifies the nature of Dawnwalkers: human by day, vampire by night, yet distinct from a simple hybrid. The magic system is grounded in the occult, focusing on rituals, amulets, and summonings rather than flashy spellcasting. The FAQ states: "Our magic is less flashy than that used in pure fantasy settings, and quite rare. It revolves around the occult -- rituals, amulets, relics, and summonings, rather than fireballs or lightning bolts."
Coen, afflicted by silver poisoning, strives to save his family. Despite this central quest, the game offers a "narrative sandbox" experience, prioritizing player agency and freedom in achieving the ultimate goal. Nonlinearity and player choice will dynamically shape the world.
To preserve the single-player experience, multiplayer and co-op modes are absent. However, romanceable characters will populate Coen's journey, allowing interactions with various races including uriashi, kobolds, and potentially werewolves.
Developed by Rebel Wolves—a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers who worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077—The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A release date is yet to be announced.
