Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid is paramount. While finding a safe haven is the first step, protecting it requires strategic defense, and barricading windows is a crucial element. This guide details how to effectively board up your windows and enhance your base's security.
To barricade a window, you'll need specific materials: one wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once gathered, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for increased protection.
Resource locations are realistic: hammers and nails are commonly found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Planks are frequently located at construction sites, or you can salvage them by breaking down wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.) in a pinch. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access compared to unprotected ones. The more planks installed, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." You'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
Note that large furniture (bookshelves, refrigerators) cannot be used as effective barricades; characters and zombies will pass through them. While ineffective for defense, knowing how to move furniture remains a useful skill for interior arrangement.
More robust barricades can be constructed using metal bars or sheets, but this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
