Borderlands Movie: A Troubled Premiere

Uncredited Artist Sparks Controversy

Borderlands Movie's Poor Reviews Aren't Its Only ProblemsEli Roth's Borderlands movie is struggling at the box office, burdened by a dismal 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 49 critic reviews). Critics have been scathing, with comments ranging from descriptions of the film as "wacko BS" to criticisms of its uninspired humor. Early social media reactions echoed these sentiments, labeling the film "lifeless," "terrible," and "uninspired."

While critics panned the film, some fans appreciated its action and crude humor, resulting in a more positive 49% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. One viewer stated, "I went in with low expectations, but I truly loved it," highlighting the divergence between critical and audience reception. Another fan acknowledged lore inconsistencies but found the altered storyline engaging.

The film's woes extend beyond poor reviews. Robbie Reid, a freelance rigger who worked on the Claptrap character, publicly revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he and the character modeler were not credited. Reid expressed disappointment, stating, "It just stings that the one to finally break the streak was the last film I worked on at a studio. And for such a significant character too." He speculated that this omission might be due to him and the artist leaving their studio in 2021, acknowledging the unfortunate prevalence of such oversights in the industry. He concluded by hoping the situation would lead to positive change regarding artist crediting.
