While awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many players are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM II. Good news! The developers have resumed work and recently released an update for the DOOM + DOOM II compilation.
This update significantly improves the technical aspects of the games, adding several key features. Crucially, support for multiplayer modifications has been implemented. For compatibility, mods must be created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play now allows all players to collect items, and an observer mode has been added for players waiting to be revived. Multiplayer network code has also been optimized, and the mod loader can now handle more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a primary focus. The game will offer extensive customization options, surpassing previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the team's commitment to accessibility.
Players will be able to adjust enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and other parameters such as game tempo, aggression levels, and parry timing. Stratton assures players that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't necessary to understand its narrative, which connects seamlessly with DOOM Eternal.
