The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a much-anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrayed the pilot John Blackthorn, will not only reprise his role but also step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2.
Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays the lead role of Lord Yoshii Toranaga and signed on for the second season in May following the show's renewal from its original limited series format, has been promoted to executive producer. Production for the new season is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the first season was filmed.
FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which adapted James Clavell’s novel. The network elaborated on the storyline's progression:
“In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined."
Fans eagerly await the return of this exceptional series, with hopes set on seeing new episodes by the end of 2026. Until then, anticipation builds as we look forward to the next chapter in this captivating saga.
