Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts were once thrilled at the prospect of an ambitious DLC set in space, specifically on the Moon, but this exciting project was eventually shelved. Blogger and dataminer SirMZK has meticulously gathered leaks and files from the game's code, providing a glimpse into CD Projekt RED's grand vision for this cosmic expansion.
Within the game's files, there are intriguing references to lunar surface maps, structured zones such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and even a model for a rover. The Moon location was envisioned to be expansive, potentially encompassing a quarter of the size of Night City with an open-world design. This would have introduced a new layer to the gameplay, transporting players from the familiar neon-lit streets to the vast expanse of the lunar surface.
A highlight of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it didn't make it into the final game, players can catch a brief glimpse of the Crystal Palace during one of the endings, where V peers out of a spaceship window. Moreover, the files uncovered a prototype for a zero-gravity bar connected to a cut quest named 201, which was intricately linked to the Arasaka storyline.
Fans remain hopeful that some of these innovative concepts might find a new home in CD Projekt RED's forthcoming project, Orion, which aims to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm whether these ideas will be revisited.
Although the Moon DLC remains a distant dream for now, the unearthed details offer a captivating look at what might have been—a daring venture for Cyberpunk 2077 into unexplored realms, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's distinctive cyberpunk style.
