Diablo 4 Season 5 may bring the iconic World of Warcraft weapon, Frostmourne, into the game. Data mined from the Season 5 Public Test Realm reveals models strongly resembling the Lich King's terrifying blade, hinting at its potential inclusion in the upcoming August update.
The Season 5 PTR, running until July 2nd, is currently testing this and other additions expected to launch in August, offering new challenges, items, and quests to bridge the gap until the "Vessel of Hatred" expansion arrives on October 8th.
Wowhead's discovery of two Frostmourne models on the PTR suggests the weapon might be obtainable in-game, possibly in both one-handed and two-handed variants. While its exact implementation remains unknown – cosmetic item, Legendary weapon, or something else entirely – the possibility of wielding Frostmourne in Diablo 4 is exciting.
Frostmourne's Arrival in Diablo 4 Season 5
Frostmourne, a legendary weapon in Warcraft lore, is inextricably linked to Arthas Menethil's fall to darkness. Though destroyed and reforged in later WoW expansions, it's never been directly wielded by players in World of Warcraft. Diablo 4 could be the first game to allow this.
This isn't the first time Diablo 4 has featured the Lich King's iconic gear. Last October, the Invincible mount cosmetic (with Frostmourne and Helm of Domination replicas) was available in the in-game shop. However, the potential addition of a wieldable Frostmourne would offer a far more interactive experience.
Season 5's class weapon expansion further fuels speculation. With Druids gaining access to polearms, one-handed swords, and daggers; Necromancers to maces and axes; and Sorcerers to one-handed swords and maces; a one-handed Frostmourne would be usable by every class in Diablo 4.
