Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed that his Marvel Cinematic Universe character, Doctor Strange, will not appear in the upcoming blockbuster *Avengers: Doomsday*. However, fans can look forward to seeing him take a "central role" in the sequel, *Avengers: Secret Wars*. In an interview with Variety, Cumberbatch accidentally let slip this exciting news, humorously exclaiming "f\*\*k it" upon realizing he'd shared a spoiler. He went on to tease that Doctor Strange's role in *Secret Wars* will be pivotal to the unfolding narrative.
Cumberbatch also hinted at the development of a third standalone Doctor Strange film, expressing enthusiasm about the creative discussions surrounding the project. He noted, "They are very open to discussing where we go next. Who do you want to write and direct the next one? What part of the comic lore do you want to explore so that Strange can keep evolving?" He praised the complexity and richness of the character, describing Doctor Strange as "a complex, contradictory, troubled human who’s got these extraordinary abilities," which provides ample material for further storytelling.
Regarding his absence from *Avengers: Doomsday*, Cumberbatch explained that it's due to "the character not aligning with this part of the story." The film, set to be released on May 1, 2026, will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and reportedly Chris Evans as well, though details remain scarce. The Russo Brothers, who previously directed several Avengers films, are at the helm, and the movie is expected to delve further into the multiverse narrative, with Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter also rumored to make an appearance.
In the nearer future, Phase 6 of the MCU will commence with *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* this July. Following *Avengers: Doomsday*, *Avengers: Secret Wars* is scheduled for release on May 7, 2027, promising fans another thrilling chapter in the Marvel saga.
