Exciting news for fans of the acclaimed MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV! Square Enix and Tencent's FFXIV Mobile Game: What We Know So Far

Mostly Unconfirmed, Yet Promising

Niko Partners' latest report highlights a list of 15 video games recently approved by China’s National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) for import and domestic release. Among these, a mobile adaptation of Square Enix's beloved MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, stands out. Tencent, a powerhouse in mobile gaming, is reportedly behind the development of this mobile version.

This isn't the first time rumors about a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV have surfaced. Last month, whispers began circulating about Tencent's involvement in creating a mobile adaptation, yet neither Tencent nor Square Enix have officially confirmed these efforts.

According to Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners, via a tweet on August 3, the Final Fantasy XIV mobile game is expected to be a standalone MMORPG, distinct from its PC counterpart. However, Ahmad cautions that this information stems from "mostly industry chatter" and awaits official confirmation.

Tencent's Role and Square Enix's Strategy

Tencent's involvement in the mobile gaming sector is well-known, and this rumored collaboration with Square Enix aligns with the latter's strategic shift towards a multiplatform approach. In May, Square Enix announced a new direction, stating their intent to "aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy" for their flagship titles, including Final Fantasy.

Other notable titles approved alongside Final Fantasy XIV's mobile version include a mobile and PC version of Rainbow Six, two games based on Marvel IP (Marvel Snap and Marvel Rivals), and a mobile game inspired by Dynasty Warriors 8.

As we await official announcements, the prospect of experiencing the rich world of Final Fantasy XIV on mobile devices is thrilling. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the world of gaming.
