In Avowed, you'll face a crucial decision: free Ilora, a suspicious prisoner, or leave her fate sealed. This choice significantly impacts your journey, particularly your escape from Fort Northreach and a later side quest.

Should You Free Ilora?

Freeing Ilora is strongly recommended. This path simplifies navigating Fort Northreach and unlocks advantages in the "Escape Plan" side quest. Early in the game, your resources are limited, and Ilora provides valuable assistance in combat.

What Happens If You Free Ilora?

Ilora becomes a crucial ally, aiding you against Fort Northreach's enemies, including Steadman Ralke. Her support significantly eases the early game challenges. Furthermore, freeing her paves the way for a smoother experience during the "Escape Plan" side quest (details omitted to avoid spoilers).

How to Free Ilora

Ilora reveals the key to her cell is located in the Warden's Room. Access this room by climbing crates, crossing to another platform, and entering a passageway above. Break through boards to reach the Warden's Room; the key is near the door. Even if you don't free Ilora, use the key to unlock the adjacent cell and obtain the Deerskin Gloves.

What Happens If You Don't Free Ilora?

Leaving Ilora imprisoned significantly increases the difficulty of Fort Northreach and the "Escape Plan" quest. Ironically, you'll still encounter her later – as an enemy. While you'll gain loot from her corpse, this comes at the cost of a more challenging escape and a missed opportunity for alliance.

Ultimately, freeing Ilora offers a more rewarding and easier gameplay experience.
