Freedom Wars Remastered, recently showcased in a new trailer from Bandai Namco, offers enhanced visuals and significant gameplay improvements. This action RPG features modified game balance, a new difficulty level, and numerous updated features. Freedom Wars Remastered launches January 10th for PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.
Previously, Sony lost the exclusive rights to the Monster Hunter series. Capcom chose to release its popular hunting games on Nintendo consoles like the Wii and Nintendo 3DS, temporarily shifting away from its Sony partnership. In response, PlayStation's parent company developed Freedom Wars for the PS Vita. While set in a futuristic world, contrasting sharply with Monster Hunter, the core gameplay loop remains strikingly similar. Players battle massive mechanical creatures called Abductors, collect their parts, upgrade their gear, and then engage in even more powerful combat.
Bandai Namco's new trailer effectively demonstrates Freedom Wars Remastered's gameplay. The video introduces the protagonist, a Sinner convicted simply for being born, in a dystopian world facing depleted natural resources. The Sinner's sentence involves completing missions for their Panopticon, their city-state. Missions range from rescuing citizens and destroying Abductors to securing control systems, playable solo or in online co-op.
The trailer highlights Freedom Wars Remastered's updates. Graphics are significantly enhanced, jumping from 544p to 2160p (4K) on PS5 and PC, maintaining a 60 FPS frame rate. PS4 reaches 1080p at 60 FPS, while the Switch version runs at 1080p at 30 FPS. Gameplay is faster-paced than the original, thanks to improved design and new mechanics like increased movement speed and cancellable weapon attacks.
Freedom Wars Remastered also boasts an overhauled crafting and upgrade system, featuring more user-friendly interfaces and freely attachable/detachable modules. Module synthesis, a new feature, lets players enhance modules with the help of rescued citizens. Finally, the trailer introduces "Deadly Sinner," a new difficulty mode for experienced players, and confirms that all customization DLC from the original PS Vita version is included.
