Fallout 76 Season 20 introduces an exciting new feature: the ability to transform into a Ghoul and navigate the radiation-filled wasteland. Dive in to explore all the ghoul-related enhancements and the new Level 50 Character Boost.
Fallout 76's latest update, "The Ghoul Within," is now live, allowing players to explore Appalachia as a Ghoul. Announced on Bethesda's website on March 18, this update enriches the game with various ghoul-centric features, mechanics, and new cosmetics to personalize your C.A.M.P.
Players can embark on their Ghoulification journey by completing the "Leap of Faith" questline. This quest leads to a new area in the Savage Divide, where players encounter unique characters who aid in their transformation. As a Ghoul, players unlock exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, alongside 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks.
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics, offering boosts based on the Feral meter's percentage. At 0%, gameplay intensifies with a "+150% Melee Damage, but at a cost of -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, and -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing players to emit a glow. This ability not only increases maximum health and heals damage but also enhances Ghoul-exclusive Perks, known as "Gherks."
With 28 perks available and 2 new legendary perks for Ghouls, players have a wide range of options. However, Ghouls cannot access perks related to Hunger, Thirst, or Chem Resistance, as these are unnecessary for their new form.
Embracing the Ghoul life enhances exploration in the radioactive wasteland, thanks to the new abilities and Gherks. However, interactions with certain factions, like the Brotherhood of Steel, become challenging, as they may turn hostile toward Ghouls, potentially blocking access to specific questlines.
Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye offers disguises that allow Ghouls to engage with restricted content. If players find the Ghoul life isn't for them, they can revert to human form via the Character Screen. Keep in mind, this is a permanent choice, but players can purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms if they wish to become a Ghoul again.
New and veteran players can now accelerate their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost, part of the Season 20 update, equips players to dive into multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and selected story content immediately.
Alongside the boost, the patch includes essential bug fixes, balance adjustments, accessibility improvements, combat tweaks, and weapon damage changes. Bethesda also teased the upcoming update, "The Big Bloom," scheduled for April 29, as part of their season calendar.
Since its release in November 2018, Fallout 76 has seen significant improvements, culminating in a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being positive. The game is playable on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
