In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, you'll encounter a variety of ferocious and memorable beasts, but none quite as unique as Rompopolo. This guide will walk you through how to unlock, defeat, and capture this intriguing Brute Wyvern.

Rompopolo, a Brute Wyvern-type monster, first appears in Chapter 2 during Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields. You'll encounter it in the Oilwell Basin region while making your way to Azuz City. Defeating Rompopolo is essential to progress further in the game.
Once you've defeated Rompopolo at least once, its entry will be added to your Large Monster Field Guide. You can then hunt it repeatedly by exploring the Oilwell Basin or by starting the "Oilwell Basin Blast" Optional Quest from your Tent.

To prepare for this challenging fight, arm yourself with water-element weapons, which you can obtain from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Additionally, equip gear with fire resistance, which you can farm from Uth Duna or Ajarakan later in the chapter. Consider crafting a fire-resistance Talisman like Fire Charm I or a general Defense Charm I to bolster your defenses. Before the battle, don't forget to grill a meal to boost your health and stamina.

Rompopolo is distinctive among wyverns due to its unique set of attacks. Its saggy skin inflates with gas, which it uses as ammunition for various explosive attacks. It can also inflict poison, so carrying Antidotes is crucial. Your Palico can help cleanse these ailments, but it's not always reliable.
Key attacks to watch for include:

As with previous *Monster Hunter* games, you have the option to either kill or capture Rompopolo near the end of the battle. To capture it, weaken the monster until your Palico notes that it looks "tired." Then, use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps to ensnare it, followed by at least one Tranq Bomb to knock it out and complete the capture.
Both killing and capturing Rompopolo yield viable rewards, though the items you receive may differ slightly. Some items are exclusive to capturing, while others are obtained through killing. Here are the potential drops from Rompopolo:
