League of Legends is reintroducing Hextech Chests following extensive fan feedback. Dive into the details of the upcoming update and what's on the horizon for LoL.
League of Legends (LoL) is bringing back Hextech Chests after listening to fan feedback. Riot Games shared a developer update on their website on February 27, 2025, outlining the forthcoming changes, accompanied by a dev update video on their YouTube channel.
LoL admitted that their recent modifications didn't meet fan expectations, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The return of Hextech Chests was a significant request from the community. LoL explained, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, players will once again be able to earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, while the remaining two can be obtained via the Honor system.
Riot Games has also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." Consequently, the entire Exalted skin line will be postponed, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act this year as initially planned.
In response to additional fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, acknowledging "clear feedback that there’s both a lack of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and that we’ve been doing more champions for each seasonal theme than makes sense."
To enhance player accessibility, LoL is addressing concerns about blue essence and champion shards by "lowering the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% as of patch 25.05."
Another reversal concerns Clash events. Initially slated to run less frequently, LoL is reverting to a monthly schedule, with the March event featuring ARURF, followed by a standard Summoner's Rift Clash in April.
Responding to popular demand, LoL is also bringing back the fan-favorite Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop is set to return in patch 25.06, with the Emporium following in 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
It's evident that Riot Games is dedicated to listening to their fans and adapting to their feedback to enhance the gaming experience. League of Legends remains available as a free-to-play title on PC. For the latest updates, visit our League of Legends page.
