In a recent interview with ScreenRant ahead of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where Elba will reprise his role as Knuckles the Echidna and Reeves will portray Shadow the Hedgehog, Idris Elba shared his thoughts on the possibility of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film. He expressed his keen interest in reuniting with Keanu Reeves, who played the iconic Johnny Silverhand in the game, stating, "Oh, man, that's a great question. I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be Cyberpunk 2077, and I think his character and my character together would be, 'Whoa.' So, let's speak that into existence."

Keanu Reeves brought the rebellious rockstar Johnny Silverhand to life in Cyberpunk 2077, while Elba portrayed the seasoned FIA sleeper agent Solomon Reed in the game's 2023 expansion, Phantom Liberty.

The dream of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project isn't just a far-fetched fantasy. According to Variety, CD Projekt Red (CDPR), the creators of the game, have been collaborating with Anonymous Content, the media company behind True Detective, Mr. Robot, The Revenant, and Spotlight, on this venture since October 2023. Although there have been no updates since the initial announcement, the success of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners animated series and the live-action adaptation of The Witcher 3, which has enjoyed five successful seasons, suggests that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film could be well within reach.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Releases Prequel Manga

In other news related to the Cyberpunk franchise, the beloved animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners continues to expand its universe. The first chapter of its prequel manga, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, is now available in selected languages, including Japanese, Polish, Italian, German, Spanish, and French, with Traditional Chinese set to release on December 20th. The English version's release date is yet to be announced.
