Infinity Nikki and its multiplayer-focused 1.5 update have recently launched on Steam, but the release has been overshadowed by a series of controversies and technical challenges. Infold Games' stylish dress-up adventure, which transitioned from Epic Game Store exclusivity to Valve's digital platform, was eagerly anticipated by fans. However, the launch was marred by a range of issues, from technical glitches to unexpected design changes and demanding outfit requirements. In response, the developers issued an apology and promised compensation, but the community's battle for Infinity Nikki continues.
PC players of Infinity Nikki were excited to dive into the game on Steam, but they encountered significant hurdles, including crashes and general instability that prevented the game from launching properly. While technical issues at launch are not uncommon, the community's frustration extended beyond performance problems.
Two new five-star outfits, Snowbound Ballad and Undying Ember, introduced with the update, each consist of 11 pieces, requiring up to 220 pulls to complete. This increase in the number of pieces compared to previous outfits caught players off guard and raised concerns about future outfit requirements becoming even more demanding.
Adding to the confusion, Infold extended the Crown of Miraland: Peak Arena event from two to three weeks, which further unsettled the player base. Amidst these changes and ongoing technical issues, the Chinese player community took to the social media platform RedNote to voice their discontent, sparking a global movement. Players worldwide are now calling for a boycott of Infinity Nikki on Steam, urging others to leave negative reviews and uninstall the game across all platforms.
Reddit user kiaxxl emphasized the importance of withholding pulls for a few days to demonstrate the community's desire for the game to remain enjoyable and fair. "For gacha games, tracking how successful a new batch of content is usually measured on the first few days. Holding back your pulls for a couple of days can help show we want IN to remain fun and fair for all players," they stated in a call-to-action post.
The backlash has had an impact, as evidenced by the game's "Mixed" rating on Steam, where players have left negative reviews warning potential new players to steer clear until their concerns are addressed. In response, Infold issued an apology letter across its official channels, acknowledging the technical issues and promising improved communication regarding future changes.
The apology included assurances that many technical problems had been resolved and outlined plans to revert Mira Crown to end on May 16 and start the next season on the same day. Players were also promised compensation in the form of 10 Revelation Crystals, 10 Resonance Crystals, and 1200 Diamonds. While some see these concessions as a step forward, others are still worried about the persistence of 11-piece outfits and the potential for future increases in outfit requirements.
Social media users like Denise92 have expressed frustration with the game's drop rates and the frequency of new banners, calling for adjustments to make the game more enjoyable. "I wish you would finally change the drop rate... it can't be that I need 200 pulls to get a 5-star and then you drop like 5 banners within weeks?! Make the rate lower or give us more diamonds to be able to get crystals.. this is not fun!" Denise92 tweeted.
Despite the ongoing issues, the Infinity Nikki community has celebrated the rapid response to their concerns, even if it's not the complete victory they hoped for. Boycotters are urging the community to maintain pressure, with Reddit user EdensAsmr warning that accepting the current 11-piece outfits could set a precedent for future updates. "Imagine if every new major update has two 11-piece 5-star banners? That means you have to save even more to be able to handle it, and 70-80 pulls per patch will not cut it," they cautioned.
