In a recent interview with Kinda Funny Games, Insomniac Games' founder and outgoing president Ted Price revealed that the studio had made a strong push to develop Resistance 4, a continuation of their beloved first-person shooter series. Unfortunately, the project never received the green light. As Price steps down after an impressive 30-year tenure at the helm of Insomniac, he shared his thoughts on the unrealized project.
"Yeah, I’ll share one. Resistance 4," Price stated when asked about his favorite game pitch that never came to fruition. He elaborated that the team at Insomniac was passionate about extending the narrative further. "We did pitch that one and it was a wonderful concept, and it just in terms of timing and market opportunity, didn’t work out." Price praised the alternate history setting of the Resistance series, which he believes offers endless storytelling possibilities involving the alien Chimera and their mysterious origins.
The Resistance series, known for its alternate history backdrop where aliens invade the UK in 1951, was initially developed by Insomniac following their work on the Ratchet and Clank franchise. The series spanned three games, all released for the PlayStation 3, before Insomniac shifted focus to other notable projects such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and new entries in the Ratchet and Clank series.
Earlier this year, Ted Price announced his retirement from Insomniac Games, marking the end of over three decades with the studio. He has appointed Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang as Co-Studio Heads to succeed him.
Insomniac’s most recent release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has just been made available on PC, and the studio is currently working on Marvel’s Wolverine as their next project.
