The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with different pricing strategies in Japan and globally, catering to regional economic differences and language preferences. This new gaming console will come in two distinct versions: a Japanese-language system, exclusively available in Japan, and a Multi-Language System, available worldwide.
In Japan, the Nintendo Switch 2's Japanese-language version will be priced at approximately $330. In contrast, the Multi-Language System version, which will be available globally, will be priced at $449.99. This significant price difference of over $100 can be attributed to the current economic conditions, particularly the weakened yen against the USD, which impacts tourist purchasing behavior in Japan.
Residents of Japan have the option to purchase the Multi-Language System version if they prefer. However, the Japanese-language system will be exclusively available in Japan and can only be linked to Nintendo Accounts set to the Japan region. This version supports only the Japanese language and is limited to software available on the Japanese Nintendo eShop.
For fans outside Japan or those who prefer multiple language options, Nintendo recommends purchasing the Multi-Language System version. Further details about this version will be disclosed on April 4.
To acquire the Nintendo Switch 2, customers will need to participate in a lottery system through the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, retailers and online shops across Japan will start accepting reservations or lottery entries from April 24, based on availability. To enter the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:
More detailed information about the application process will be available on the My Nintendo Store starting April 4.
