Mario vs. Sonic: Unofficial cinematic crossover trailer unveiled

A dream clash of gaming titans: Mario and Sonic on the silver screen! For years, fans have clamored for a cinematic showdown between these iconic characters, fueling speculation about a potential Sega and Nintendo collaboration.

KH Studio has ignited that imagination with a concept trailer showcasing a thrilling crossover. The familiar, vibrant Mushroom Kingdom is juxtaposed with Sonic's lightning-fast action sequences, offering a tantalizing glimpse of what a combined franchise film could deliver.

Inspired by the phenomenal box office success of the Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog movies (a combined global gross exceeding $2 billion), this concept trailer taps into the collective desire for a dream team-up.

Despite the historical rivalry between Nintendo and Sega, making such a collaboration a long shot, the idea of uniting these beloved heroes clearly resonates deeply with fans.

In the meantime, audiences can anticipate sequels to both beloved franchises: Super Mario Bros. at the Movies 2 (2026) and Sonic 4 at the Movies (2027).

Separately, December saw the announcement of a partnership between McDonald's, Sega, and Paramount. This collaboration brought Sonic toys to US McDonald's locations. Following the success of 2022's Sonic toys, speculation mounted regarding a potential tie-in with the third Sonic film. This culminated in McDonald's unveiling a new Sonic Happy Meal offering in Colombia, featuring twelve unique hedgehog designs. While initially not slated for a US release, McDonald's later confirmed its arrival in the United States, with each Happy Meal including a special Sonic the Hedgehog 3 toy, alongside a side, drink, and choice of McNuggets or hamburger.
