Exciting news for fans of Marvel Rivals! The developers have unveiled plans to keep the game fresh and engaging by introducing new heroes monthly and adjusting the duration of future seasons. Dive into the details of their strategy post-Season 2, along with information on new characters and skins.
In an effort to maintain the game's excitement "as fresh as its launch," NetEase has announced a shift in their content release strategy. Starting from Season 3, Marvel Rivals will see the introduction of new heroes every month, a significant change from the previous plan of two heroes per season. This was revealed by Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong during the Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4, alongside adjustments to the season length.
The developers plan to shorten each season from three months to two, allowing for a more frequent release of new heroes. Guangguang stated, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month."
The pressure to keep the game thrilling has been influenced by community feedback on social media. Guangguang noted, "During this time, several discussions on social media have certainly added some pressure on us to keep the game as exciting as it has been since December." The team is also exploring the addition of new game modes to enhance player engagement, which could lead to up to 12 new heroes being added annually.
Balancing these frequent hero introductions poses a challenge, but Guangguang shared insights in a PC Gamer interview on March 14, emphasizing the use of key metric data across all game modes for effective balancing.
Season 2, dubbed the Hellfire Gala, introduces a vibrant setting on the Mutant haven of Living Island Krakoa, hosted by the new hero Emma Frost. Known as an X-Men villain with telepathic abilities and diamond transformation powers, Emma Frost joins the game as a Vanguard.
The season's trailer showcased new skins for several heroes, including Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, all dressed in elegant formal wear, reflecting the lavish theme of the Hellfire Gala, inspired by Marvel’s elite Hellfire Club.
Midway through Season 2, the iconic villain Ultron will make his entrance in Season 2.5, disrupting the Hellfire Gala with a swarm of robots, signaling the beginning of the Age of Ultron. Details about Ultron's integration into the game are still forthcoming.
Marvel Rivals has also rolled out new skins for Thor and Hawkeye, announced on Twitter (X) on April 4. Thor's Lord of Asgard skin draws inspiration from his comic revival by Odin, while Hawkeye's Ronin skin reflects his time as a vigilante samurai.
The Thor Rune King bundle includes the Rune King costume, spray, nameplate, The Omniscient MVP, and Well of Mimir emote. Meanwhile, the Hawkeye Ronin bundle offers the Ronin skin, spray, nameplate, Deadly Rain MVP, and Hone to Perfection emote.
These updates and future plans underscore NetEase’s commitment to supporting Marvel Rivals for 10 years and beyond. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates on Marvel Rivals, keep an eye on our ongoing coverage!
