If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing put those doubts to rest. While we're only half-serious about that, we're fully committed to helping you master the art of fishing in *Rune Slayer*. It's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*, but don't worry—we've got you covered with a step-by-step guide to reeling in those aquatic treasures.
Before you set out to catch those elusive fish, make sure you accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman, the white-haired NPC you'll find at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon will task you with catching 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll explain those quotation marks soon).
Here's the catch: to fish successfully, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle, which, conveniently, Simon the Fisherman has in stock.
Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon. While 5 worms are recommended, we suggest buying 10 to be on the safe side. Note that you don't equip the bait. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory; they'll be automatically used when you catch a fish. Each fish you catch will consume one Worm from your inventory.
The crucial detail here is that you won't be able to catch any fish without at least 5 baits. We tried with just one Worm and came up empty-handed. Only after having 5 Worms did we start catching fish. It's a good idea to keep your Worms in your hotbar to monitor your supply easily. Once you're equipped, you're ready for the next step.
First, select your Wood Fishing Rod. You can't equip it, but placing it in your hotbar or accessing it from your inventory will make your character hold it ready.
Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water—the pier next to Simon the Fisherman is a prime spot.
Next, keep an eye on the bobber. When you see it ripple once or twice, click M1 again to reel in your catch. It's that simple.
However, success isn't guaranteed every time. More often than not, you might not catch anything, or you might reel in junk instead. The good news? Simon counts junk as a catch—hence the quotation marks around "fish" earlier.
So, to complete the quest, cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and reel in anything 5 times. We caught only two actual fish; the rest were Old Cups.
Once you've caught 5 "fish," return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to save inventory space.
