In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Metro is offering Metro 2033 Redux for free, but you'll need to act fast—this offer is only available for the next 48 hours. 4A Games made the announcement on Metro’s official Twitter (X) account on April 14, stating that players can grab Metro 2033 Redux on Steam and Xbox until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT.

This initiative aims to introduce new players to the series, starting with the game that began it all. Additionally, 4A Games shared further plans for the anniversary celebration in a blog post on their official website on March 16.

The post detailed, "Throughout this year, there will be events, deals, and celebratory content on the Metro social media channels, to thank you, our players, for joining us on this incredible journey."

Founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanding to Malta, 4A Games draws inspiration from Dmitry Glukhovsky’s science fiction novel, Metro 2033, and its sequels. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing situation in Ukraine, 4A Games remains committed to exploring themes related to the conflict. They shared, "These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible. We want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title; it will be ready when it's ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it."

4A Games is currently working on two major projects: the next Metro installment and a brand-new IP. While specifics about the new IP remain under wraps, the developers have provided some insights into the upcoming Metro game.

The conflict in Ukraine has significantly influenced the development process and the narrative direction of the next Metro game. As stated in a previous studio update, "In 2022, a full-scale Russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, with those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."
