Navigating the "Cursed" Mission in Metro 2033: A Comprehensive Guide
Even after a decade, Metro 2033 remains a fan favorite, its popularity recently boosted by the VR release of Metro Awakening. This guide focuses on the notoriously tricky "Cursed" mission, set in the challenging Turgenevskaya station (as named in the books and real life). This mission follows the anomaly encounter and the railcar ride to the next station.
Locating the Bomb
After reaching the defenders at the barricaded escalators, you'll learn that an explosives team went missing while attempting to collapse a tunnel to stop the nosalis attacks. Your task: find and detonate the bomb. Expect relentless nosalis attacks throughout. If overwhelmed, retreat to the defenders for support – you'll likely need to do this at least once.
The bomb is located at the far end of the right-hand tunnel. Avoid the ghostly shadows directly ahead; they'll damage you. Once you have the bomb, either proceed to the adjacent tunnel or retreat if necessary.
Destroying the Tunnel
With the bomb, head deep into the left-hand tunnel (from the defenders' perspective). A cutscene will trigger; Artyom automatically plants and lights the fuse. Escape immediately; the blast is lethal at close range.
Alternatively, a grenade or pipe bomb thrown into the same tunnel area will also cause a collapse. Note: even with this tunnel destroyed, nosalises can still enter from other points.
Securing the Airlock
To fully secure the station, destroy the airlock. Ascend the stairs on the right of the main platform to the torchlit area. Ignore the nosalises here. Interact with the support columns to plant a pipe bomb; run immediately after lighting the fuse.
With both entrances destroyed, follow Khan to the shrine room, and then descend through the floor panel to begin the "Armory" mission. A video walkthrough is available (link omitted for brevity).
