Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will be the final season for the Warner Bros. platform fighting game, set to conclude on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio shared this news through a detailed blog post on their official website. MultiVersus, which first hit the scene on May 28 of the previous year, will kick off its last hurrah with Season 5 starting February 4, running until its final curtain call in May 2025. At this point, online support will cease, but Player First assures fans that all earned and purchased content will remain accessible offline through local and training modes.
In a heartfelt message, the MultiVersus team expressed their gratitude: “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Player First also announced that real-money transactions for MultiVersus have been discontinued as of today. However, players can still use Gleamium and character tokens to access in-game content until the end of support on May 30. Additionally, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.
The decision to end MultiVersus comes after Warner Bros. Discovery labeled the project a significant disappointment. During a financial call in November, the company revealed that MultiVersus fell short of expectations, leading to a $100 million writedown in its games sector. This added to a total of $300 million in losses following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Just last week, Variety reported that Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad would be stepping down after a challenging 2024.
"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” stated chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels during the November call.
Despite the game shutting down just days after its one-year anniversary, Season 5 promises to go out with a bang. Alongside the usual new content, fans can look forward to new playable characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman joining the fray. Lola Bunny, the Looney Toons icon, will be unlockable as a daily calendar reward, while the DC superhero Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, both starting next week.
