MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5
Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its popular platform fighter, following the completion of its fifth season. The game's final season will launch on February 4th, 2025, and conclude on May 30th, 2025.
Season 5: A Final Farewell
The official MultiVersus Twitter (X) account confirmed the shutdown on January 31st, 2025. Player First Games and Warner Bros. stated that Season 5 will be the game's last content update. This final season will introduce two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). All Season 5 content will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the season's end, MultiVersus will be removed from all digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.
Offline Play Option
A silver lining for fans: MultiVersus will retain an offline mode. Players can download the latest version between February 4th, 9 AM PST, and May 30th, 9 AM PDT, to enable local gameplay, either solo against AI or with up to three friends. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's account, preserving all earned and purchased content.
Real-money transactions ceased on January 31st, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium (in-game currency) can be used until Season 5 ends.
A Brief History and Community Thanks
MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates, the game faced challenges including technical issues and reported player count decline. Despite these setbacks, Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support throughout the game's lifespan.
MultiVersus will feature 35 playable characters at the time of its shutdown on May 30th, 9 AM PDT. The game remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until its closure.
