Must-Play PC Games Optimized for Controller Enjoyment

PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are arguably better experienced with a controller. Games emphasizing reflex-based movement or fast-paced melee combat often lend themselves well to gamepad use. Similarly, genres with console origins often translate more smoothly to PC with controller support.

While many PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain titles are enhanced by a controller's intuitive input. This is especially true for games that prioritize responsive movement and close-quarters combat.

The recent release window of late 2024 included titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force, all generally better suited to keyboard and mouse. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, however, plays slightly better with a gamepad, though the difference is minimal.

Several upcoming PC game releases in early 2025 show potential for superior controller play:

• Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port similar to Monster Hunter, suggesting controller compatibility.
• Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently performs better with gamepads.
• Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the predecessor's superior controller experience on PC, a similar outcome is expected.
• Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PS5 port to PC, usually indicating a controller-focused design, though keyboard and mouse may still be viable.
