NieR: Automata - How To Get The Type-40 Sword

NieR: Automata's Type-40 Sword: A Guide to Acquisition

Small swords in NieR: Automata are characterized by their rapid attack speed and compact hitbox. They offer a balanced choice against diverse enemies. While weapon upgrades enhance their longevity, numerous powerful weapons, including the Type-40 sword, are obtainable and upgradable for increased character strength. However, the Type-40 Sword is easily missed; this guide details its acquisition.

Obtaining the Type-40 Sword

The Type-40 Sword is the reward for completing the side quest "Find a Present," the culmination of a questline involving Operator 6O. Unlocking this quest requires completing two preceding quests. Here's a step-by-step guide, including chapter selection points:

  1. Post-Chapter 5: After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, you'll receive a call from Operator 6O. This initiates the "Investigating Communications" quest—complete it immediately as it's missable.

  2. Chapter 6 & 7 Progression: Advance through Chapter 6 (Forest Castle events) and into Chapter 7.

  3. "Terminal Repairs": After speaking with Pascal about A2 and exploring the city ruins, Operator 6O will contact you again, instructing you to check your inbox at an access point to start "Terminal Repairs."

  4. "Find a Present": Continuing Chapter 7's progression towards the Resistance Camp, you'll receive a final call from Operator 6O mentioning flowers and a subsequent inbox message. Interact with this message to begin "Find a Present."

  5. Reward: Completing "Find a Present" delivers the Type-40 Sword to your inbox.

Type-40 Sword Stats and Upgrades

At level 1, the Type-40 Sword boasts a 5-hit light attack combo and a 3-hit heavy attack combo. Upgrading it to level 4 increases the light attack combo to 7 hits and enhances its effectiveness against stunned enemies. Titanium Alloy is required for these upgrades.

Additional "Find a Present" Rewards

Completing "Find a Present" also yields:

  • A130: Bomb
  • Amber x 4
  • 5,000 G
  • 800 EXP
