Nintendo Weighs Switch 2 Outlook as Tariffs Loom

Nintendo has projected modest sales targets for its upcoming Switch 2 console, which analysts describe as intentionally cautious given ongoing tariff uncertainties.

In its latest financial report, Nintendo anticipates selling 15 million Switch 2 units and 45 million games during the fiscal year ending March 2026. The next-generation console launches globally on June 5.

The company clarified its forecast accounts for sustained U.S. tariff rates implemented on April 10, though potential policy changes could impact projections. "We're closely monitoring market conditions to adjust accordingly," Nintendo stated.

Niko Partners' Research Director Daniel Ahmad labeled the 15 million target as "deliberately conservative," noting in a social media post that Nintendo appears to be "factoring in tariff volatility, pricing challenges, and production variables despite strong pre-order demand."

Ahmad added that Nintendo might revise projections if tariff conditions improve: "Current supply chain disruptions create challenging launch conditions, compounded by potential tariff increases that could further complicate matters."

Notably, achieving 15 million sales would make the Switch 2 one of history's most successful console launches, surpassing the original Switch's 14.87 million first-year sales.

Market demand appears exceptionally strong. Following a tariff-related delay, pre-orders opened April 24 at $449.99 — with predictable overwhelming response. Nintendo has since cautioned U.S. customers who ordered through My Nintendo Store that high demand may delay launch day deliveries.
