Gamers were hit with a wave of disappointment last week when the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date shifted from April 9 to an uncertain future. This change came in the wake of import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which caused financial markets to spiral. The ripple effect has crossed borders, with Nintendo Canada confirming that pre-orders in their region are also delayed.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," Nintendo of Canada stated to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup. "Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This echoes the statement Nintendo of America gave to IGN on April 4, though the Canadian version omits specific mention of the new tariffs. "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."
Despite the original pre-order launch scheduled for tomorrow, there's still no information on when fans can start refreshing their browsers and checking their credit card details. This leaves gamers in a state of uncertainty and concerned about potential price increases beyond the initially announced $449.99.
Meanwhile, in other countries, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already begun in the UK today. Smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly sold out, leading scalpers to list pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly higher than the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
