Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced a significant leadership change, with Hideaki Nishino stepping into the role of sole CEO effective April 1, 2025. This news comes from a recent press release that also highlighted broader executive shifts within Sony Corporation.
Simultaneously, Sony's CFO Hiroki Totoki has been elevated to the position of president and CEO of Sony Corporation, succeeding Kenichiro Yoshida, who has led the company since April 2018 following Kazuo Hirai. Additionally, Lin Tao, previously SVP of finance, corporate development, and strategy, will now serve as Sony's CFO.
Last year, following the retirement of former SIE CEO Jim Ryan, it was decided that leadership of SIE would be shared between Nishino and Hermen Hulst. Hulst was appointed head of PlayStation Studios, while Nishino took charge of hardware and technology. With Nishino's new role as sole CEO of SIE, he will oversee the entire operation and continue leading the platform business group. Meanwhile, Hulst will maintain his focus on PlayStation Studios.
Nishino, who has been with Sony since 2000 and previously held the position of SVP of the platform experience group, expressed his enthusiasm for his new role. "I am truly honored to take the helm at Sony Interactive Entertainment," he stated. "Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone. We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation. I want to thank Hermen for his expertise and leadership as he continues his role as CEO, Studio Business Group. I am deeply grateful for the PlayStation community and their continued support and I am very excited for what the future holds."
