Obsidian's Avowed: 60fps on Xbox Series X Confirmed, Series S Locked at 30fps
Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated RPG, will achieve a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second (fps) on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in an interview with MinnMax. While Patel didn't elaborate on specifics, the confirmation clarifies previous reports. The Xbox Series S version, as previously announced, will remain capped at 30fps.
Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes (60fps/lower visuals vs. 30fps/enhanced visuals) remains unclear. It's possible the 60fps target is the default setting for the Series X.
The game's release date presents a pricing quirk. Those willing to pay $89.99 will gain early access on February 13th, while the standard $69.99 edition launches on February 18th. This staggered release strategy, though employed by other publishers, has already been abandoned by some, such as Ubisoft.
Set within the Pillars of Eternity universe, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and impactful decisions. Players will unravel mysteries, navigate political intrigue, and forge alliances or rivalries within a rich narrative tapestry of war and adventure.
IGN's recent final preview lauded Avowed's engaging dialogue, player agency, and overall enjoyable experience, stating simply, "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
