Outriders Dev Blames Square Enix for Miscommunication on Canceled Game

People Can Fly, the Polish studio renowned for Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, has announced further job cuts following the cancellation of two major projects: Project Gemini and Project Bifrost.

"Today we made the extremely difficult decision to halt development on both Project Gemini and Project Bifrost—this information has been formally disclosed to the market," CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski stated in an official announcement.

Play"Project Gemini's suspension results from our publishing partner failing to deliver a revised content agreement outlining future milestones, coupled with their complete lack of communication regarding project continuation.

Project Bifrost's termination stems from these circumstances and our financial assessment, which revealed insufficient resources to complete development and release."

The CEO added: "Consequently, we must reorganize our studio with deep workforce reductions—the most painful outcome possible. We profoundly regret this situation and sincerely thank all team members for their dedicated contributions."

While the statement doesn't name specific publishers, People Can Fly's official site confirms Square Enix partnered on Gemini, with Bifrost being self-funded. Square Enix hasn't publicly responded.

This follows last year's reduction of 120 staff when development on Bifrost was initially scaled back. The studio continues developing Project Echo with Krafton, Project Delta with Sony, and Gears of War: E-Day with Microsoft.

The studio's latest release is Bulletstorm VR, a modernized version of the cult classic shooter for Meta Quest and PSVR 2 platforms.
