Persona 4 Golden: How To Beat Magical Magus

Persona 4 Golden: Conquering the Magical Magus in Yukiko's Castle

Yukiko's Castle, the first major dungeon in Persona 4 Golden, presents a gradual challenge, culminating in encounters with the formidable Magical Magus. While the early floors are manageable, the later levels introduce this powerful foe, demanding strategic preparation. This guide details the Magus's weaknesses and provides a winning strategy.

Magical Magus: Strengths, Weaknesses, and Skills

The Magical Magus's elemental affinities are:

Null Strong Weak
Fire Wind Light

The Magus primarily utilizes fire-based attacks, making fire resistance crucial. Equip fire-resistant accessories found in golden chests throughout Yukiko's Castle – these are invaluable for both this encounter and the final boss fight.

The Magus's dangerous skills include Agilao (a powerful fire spell that hits hard) and Hysterical Slap (a two-hit physical attack). When you see the Magus charging, guard on your next turn to mitigate Agilao's devastating potential.

Early in the game, only the protagonist has access to light-based skills. Therefore, it's advisable for Chie and Yosuke to focus on guarding, preserving their health while the protagonist delivers the decisive blow.

Early-Game Persona with Light Skills: Archangel

The ideal early-game Persona with a light skill is Archangel. Naturally possessing Hama (an instant-kill attack against weaknesses), Archangel also learns Media at level 12, a vital healing skill for the final boss fight. Archangel, a level 11 Persona, can be fused using:

  • Slime (Level 2)
  • Forneus (Level 6)

Hama's instant-kill nature makes it exceptionally effective against the Magical Magus's light weakness, often resulting in an immediate victory. Farming the Magus for experience is viable if you have sufficient SP-restoring items, or if you're willing to enter the final boss fight with slightly depleted SP.
