Originally known as Project Q, the PlayStation Portal boasts an 8-inch LCD screen with a full HD 1080p display that delivers smooth gameplay at 60 frames per second (fps). It incorporates key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, to bring the PS5 console experience to a portable format.

"PlayStation Portal is the ideal device for gamers in households where sharing the living room TV is a necessity or for those who wish to enjoy PS5 games in different rooms of the house," Sony emphasized in their announcement. "With PlayStation Portal, you can effortlessly switch from playing on your PS5 to your handheld device over Wi-Fi."

Sony Enhances Wi-Fi Connectivity for Remote Play

[1] screenshot taken from Reddit One of the standout features of the PlayStation Portal is its ability to connect to a user's PS5 console over Wi-Fi, enabling a smooth transition between TV and handheld play. While this feature has been highly anticipated, some users initially experienced connectivity issues. Sony has specified that the PlayStation Portal requires a broadband internet Wi-Fi connection with at least 5Mbps for optimal performance.

In response to user feedback, Sony recently released a significant update for the PlayStation Portal, enhancing its ability to connect to public Wi-Fi networks. Previously, the device was limited to slower 2.4GHz bands, which hindered remote play performance. With the release of Update 3.0.1 just a few days ago, the PlayStation Portal now supports certain 5GHz networks, leading to improved connection speeds.

Feedback from PlayStation Portal users on social media has been overwhelmingly positive following the update, with many reporting more stable connections. "I’m the biggest portal hater, but mine is playing much better so far," one user remarked, highlighting the noticeable improvement in performance.
