Pre-Hunt Meal Prep Guide for Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster hunting is a demanding endeavor that requires thorough preparation, and nothing beats the boost you get from a hearty meal. Let's dive into how you can cook and eat your own meals in *Monster Hunter Wilds* to enhance your hunting experience.

Cooking and Eating Meals in Monster Hunter Wilds

Unlike in *Monster Hunter: World* and *Monster Hunter Rise*, where you could rely on a friendly Palico NPC to cook for you, *Monster Hunter Wilds* requires you to take the culinary reins yourself. Here are the two methods you can use to prepare your meals:

  • By cooking in your tent: When you accept a new quest, take a moment to prepare. Head to your tent, navigate to the BBQ Menu by pressing L1 or R1, and select the "Grill a Meal" option.
  • By using the Portable BBQ Grill: Alternatively, you can access the Portable BBQ Grill from your inventory. Press the square button to use it and start cooking from there.

Which Meals to Cook?

In the cooking menu, you have three meal options to choose from:

  • Recommended Meals: These are basic meals made from a Ration and any additional ingredients you have on hand. Cooking with just a Ration grants a 30-minute buff that increases your Health by +50, Stamina by +150, and Attack by +2. Adding ingredients extends the duration by another 20 minutes. These meals serve as the bare minimum for your hunt preparation.
  • Custom Meals: For a more tailored experience, opt for the custom meal option. Here, you can select one Ration (meat, fish, or veggies), one ingredient, and your finishing touches. Depending on your choice of Ration, you can gain different buffs, such as increased attack, defense, or elemental resistances. Ingredients and finishing touches can further enhance your meals, providing benefits like improved gathering or reduced damage taken.
  • Favorite Meals: If you've found a meal combination you particularly enjoy, you can save it as a favorite for quick selection in future hunts.

Once you've chosen your meal, start cooking, and your Hunter will automatically eat, ensuring you're fully prepared for the challenges ahead.

And there you have it—a comprehensive guide on how to cook and eat meals in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. For more tips and detailed information on the game, be sure to check out The Escapist.
