Sony's recent State of Play showcase highlighted *Days Gone Remastered*, but its $10 upgrade price tag has sparked controversy among PlayStation Plus subscribers. Sony confirmed this upgrade, offering a discounted jump to the PlayStation 5 remaster, is exclusively for those who purchased the PlayStation 4 version—either digitally or on disc. This excludes those who acquired *Days Gone* through PlayStation Plus, leaving them to pay the full $49.99 price.
(*Days Gone* was previously part of the now-defunct PS Plus Collection and a free Essential monthly game in April 2021.)
This decision has fueled online complaints from PS Plus subscribers. Many subreddit posts express frustration, stating they would have gladly paid the $10 upgrade fee but will now skip the game entirely.
“They would actually have made a decent chunk of change if PS Plus players were eligible,” commented squarejellyfish\_, “even if most didn’t want to play it, they’d at least be interested in paying 10 bucks to try it out for an hour or two.” Similar sentiments were echoed by other users, highlighting the potential lost revenue from this restriction. One user, dredizzle99, stated, “There's no way I'm paying full price for this, but I'd happily pay for the upgrade…Surely the majority of people that have it on PS plus are thinking the same thing, so they're basically losing all the potential sales from them.” Another user, jackanyon95, added, "They gave away the game for free so every copy is an extra £10/$10 they wouldn't have had but they decided to be awkward instead and cut out half the owner base…I'm not paying full price, it didn't even need a remaster."
While some PS Plus subscribers understand Sony's likely financial calculations behind this decision, many are criticizing the company's perceived stinginess, particularly given the expectation of some generosity from PlayStation. *Days Gone Remastered* wasn't the only game revealed at the State of Play; IGN's State of Play February 2025 roundup provides a complete list of announcements.
