Ratatan Unveils 4-Player Online Co-op in New Trailer

Ratatan, the much-anticipated spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series, has just released its official gameplay trailer, igniting excitement among fans. The trailer, showcased during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, offers a detailed look at the game's mechanics, highlighting features that echo the charm of its predecessor while introducing fresh elements.

Trailer Highlights Gameplay and Boss Battle

The gameplay trailer offers a thrilling glimpse into Ratatan's world, featuring an intense battle against a colossal boss crab. Developed by Ratatan Works, the game blends rhythm roguelike action with side-scrolling combat, creating an immersive experience. A standout feature is the online co-op mode, allowing up to 4 players to join forces. Additionally, players can control up to 100 characters in sprawling melee battles, adding depth and excitement to the gameplay.

Ratatan is a passion project brought to life by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi. Launched on Kickstarter in 2023, the campaign successfully hit its console launch stretch goal, ensuring Ratatan will be available on various gaming platforms.

Closed Beta Scheduled for February 27, 2025

Exciting news for eager fans: Ratatan's closed beta test is set to kick off on February 27, 2025. According to a recent update on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared significant milestones the game has achieved, including surpassing 100,000 wishlists on Steam and garnering positive feedback on their Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo.

While the game won't be featured at the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is dedicating their efforts to perfecting the closed beta. Sakajiri outlined that the initial beta build will include gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added during the test period, which will last approximately a month. He also noted that details about code distribution, start date, and time will be shared via Discord and X once confirmed.

Ratatan is slated for a 2025 release across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Although an exact release date hasn't been announced yet, anticipation continues to build for this vibrant and engaging game.
