Robert Eggers, renowned for his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the classic fantasy adventure Labyrinth.
According to Variety, Eggers will pen the screenplay alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This new sequel replaces a previously announced project spearheaded by Scott Derrickson, which had stalled. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted for Eggers' vision instead.
The original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped brother. Henson puppets play a significant role in her adventure.
Eggers' upcoming projects extend beyond Labyrinth. He's also helming a werewolf film, Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English.
Nosferatu, Eggers' recent Christmas release, is a remake of Murnau's 1922 silent film. The 19th-century German setting sees a real estate agent's encounter with a Transylvanian count unleashing vampiric terrors upon him and his wife.
Nosferatu garnered four Academy Award nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. A review of Nosferatu is available here.
