Schedule I is facing a copyright infringement claim, but the accuser’s games are now being review-bombed by fans in a surprising backlash. Discover the details behind the legal dispute and what’s next for Schedule I’s development.
The indie crime simulation game Schedule I is at the center of a growing controversy after Movie Games S.A., developer of The Drug Dealer Simulator series, accused it of copyright infringement. According to a report by the Polish Press Agency on April 3, Movie Games S.A. has completed a legal review claiming that Schedule I may have copied key elements from their franchise—including core gameplay mechanics, narrative structure, and user interface design.*
While no formal legal action has been confirmed yet, the gaming community has already taken sides. Notably, Schedule I appears to have garnered stronger public support. In response, The Drug Dealer Simulator and its sequel, Drug Dealer Simulator 2, have been hit with a wave of negative user reviews on Steam. As a result, both titles now show recent review labels of "Overwhelmingly Negative" and "Mostly Negative" respectively.
The majority of the new negative reviews criticize Movie Games S.A. for targeting a small indie developer, with many calling the move hypocritical. Players have pointed out that similar games existed before without legal repercussions, raising questions about why Schedule I—a rapidly successful title—has become the focus. Despite this, The Drug Dealer Simulator series remains critically acclaimed as one of the leading entries in the criminal enterprise genre.
Schedule I is a co-op crime simulation game where players begin as a low-level drug dealer and climb the ranks to build a criminal empire. It launched into Early Access on PC on March 25 and has since earned an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating on Steam. Currently ranked as Steam’s 2nd top-selling game, it has outperformed major releases like inZOI, Monster Hunter Wilds, and indie hit R.E.P.O. According to SteamDB, the game reached an all-time peak of 459,075 concurrent players.
At Game8, we found Schedule I to deliver a deeply engaging and immersive experience—so much so that we’re calling it a true "Breaking Bad" simulator. For our full take on its Early Access debut, check out our in-depth coverage below!
