Starting your journey in Hollow Era, you begin as a Soul Spirit, but to ascend to the ranks of a Shinigami, or Soul Reaper, you must engage with the NPC known as Hurt Shinigami. This NPC will present you with your first quest, marking your irreversible commitment to the Shinigami path. Should your interest lie with the Hollow archetype, you'll need to consult our separate guide on Hollow progression.

During the critical moment of choosing your path, act swiftly. Opting for the Hollow path involves breaking your chain, whereas choosing to become a Shinigami means your chain will gradually weaken, breaking every two minutes. If it fully breaks, you'll automatically transition into a Hollow. In such a scenario, refer to our guide on resurrection moves to navigate your new Hollow endgame.
Your initial task as a Shinigami is to purify 6 Lost Souls, aligning with the Shinigami's duty to maintain the balance between life and death. Following this, you'll receive a quest from an NPC near Hurt Shinigami, requiring you to deliver a letter to a Doctor friend by the hospital.

These early quests are perfect for familiarizing yourself with your abilities. Consider purchasing a $1,000 random sword of power from a Urahara shop, and if finances allow, utilize the bus stop for $200 as a teleport/fast travel option, given the expansive map. Alternatively, for 149 Robux, you can opt for infinite fast travel through the Robux Shop.

Subsequent quests are marked with a red crosshair, guiding you through defeating Hollows, tackling Corrupted Shinigamis, and more until you reach level 15. Quests vary from repeatable, progression-based, to those tied to specific paths like Vizard and Airwalk.

To maximize your Shinigami potential, strategic investment of skill points is crucial. The Reiatsu Skill Tree offers a variety of Kido abilities, exclusive to Shinigami, enhancing your combat prowess. Kido and Reiatsu Nodes boost your damage output and maximum Reiatsu respectively. Here are some notable Kido abilities:
Caja Negacion: Launches a beam of lightning from your finger, spreading electricity when combined with Electric.
Shakkaho: Conjures a red energy ball in your hand, exploding upon impact and capable of ragdolling or igniting foes with Ragdoll and Fire.
Chain Bind: Summons energy chains to pull enemies towards you.
Prison of Light: Immobilizes enemies with six light rods, ideal for agile foes.
Thunder Sear: A slow-moving lightning ball that deals electric damage and explodes on contact, perfect for crowd control.
Reaching level 15 unlocks the Shikai Training quest from Urihiro. Completing this quest, which involves defeating Urahara Kisuke, grants you access to Shikai powers. Be prepared, as facing Kisuke at level 15 might be challenging without optimal gear or skills; consider grinding to level 25 or higher before attempting.

Upon unlocking Shikai, your weapon gains a random powerful ability, which can be re-rolled at Urahara Shop if desired. A Rage Bar fills as you engage in combat, allowing you to activate Shikai with the Y key (default). Shikai deactivates upon depleting your Reiatsu or by holding the Y key.
Mastering Shikai involves earning Mastery Points, which directly influence your Rage Bar's efficiency. Higher Mastery Levels reduce Rage consumption and come with visual and power enhancements:
Mastery Level 1: 1-149 Points. Grants Transparent Aura.
Mastery Level 2: 150-299 Points. Grants a brighter aura with particles.
Mastery Level 3: 300-499 Points. Grants a Lightning boost.
Mastery Level 4: 500+ Points. Grants a zone of flying stones around you.
To transcend into a Visored, a hybrid of Shinigami and Hollow, you must first reach level 50. This unlocks the Vizard fighting style, obtainable at the Vizard’s Warehouse. To fully embrace the Visored path, you'll need to acquire the Hogyoku, a rare item dropped by the King of Hueco Mundo with a mere 1% drop rate.

As a Visored, you benefit from Mask Control, reducing the risk of Hollow control, and the Visored node, extending your mask-wearing duration and amplifying your damage output with Hollow powers.

Hollow Mask: Allows control over your inner Hollow, donning the mask at will.
Cero: Charges a beam of Reiatsu, inflicting significant damage.
Final Cero: Pins enemies down and crushes them with an overhead Cero.
Vasto Rage: Temporarily transforms you into the mightiest Hollow type, unleashing your full potential.
Currently, Bankai is not available in Hollow Era. However, given the game's popularity, future updates may introduce this powerful ability, though no release date has been confirmed.
When combat feels overwhelming, use the lockup button to focus on your primary target, especially useful during laggy moments. Learning to block enemy attacks early is crucial due to the slow regeneration of your vitality bar.
Investing in bus teleport can save time traversing the map, and when allocating Skill Points, prioritize Strength and Speed for effective early gameplay. Press and hold J (default keybind) to reveal quest markers across Karakura using your Reiatsu sense.
If repetitive tasks deter you, the Shinigami path offers a more structured progression compared to the chore-heavy Hollow route.
