The excitement among Hollow Knight fans reignited due to a series of posts by one of the game's creators, William Pellen, on Twitter (X) just before and during the Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025.

On January 15, Pellen tantalized fans with a tweet saying, "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This cryptic message likely referred to the leaked Switch 2 reveal scheduled for January 16. Naturally, fans immediately started wondering if this could mean news about Silksong’s release. Pellen’s subsequent actions only fueled these speculations further.

On the day of the Switch 2 announcement, January 16, 2025, which also disclosed an upcoming direct release on April 2, 2025, fans noticed Pellen had changed his Twitter profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed that the image was from a Bon Appetit article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake, published on April 2, 2024.

Adding to the intrigue, Pellen commented on the article with "mmmm tasty." This led dedicated fans to delve into the comments section, where discussions about Silksong intertwined with cake reviews. One fan even boldly stated, "if we get real silksong news by April 2nd 2025, I will bake this cake." Another fan praised the cake, saying, "Loved the silky texture. This goes directly in my favourite recipes," cleverly linking it to the game and Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 Direct.

It's important to note that there's no definitive proof that Pellen himself commented on the cake recipe. However, his change of profile picture is undeniable and suggests he might be hinting at something—although that something might be nothing at all.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Silksong Speculations Rage (Again) Because of a Cake

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced on February 14, 2019, with plans to launch on various platforms including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This sequel to Hollow Knight follows the journey of Hornet in a new kingdom filled with silk and song.

In December 2019, Team Cherry offered a glimpse into Hollow Knight’s enchanting soundtrack, composed by Christopher Larkin. Following this, the development team went quiet for over two years.

The silence was broken in February 2022 when Pellen reassured fans that Silksong was still in development and promised that updates would be shared as the game approached its release date. That June, during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, Team Cherry unveiled another trailer featuring new gameplay and announced that Silksong would be available on Game Pass upon launch.

Originally slated for a 2023 release, Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin announced a delay in May 2023, stating, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

Even after more than five years, the Hollow Knight community remains vibrant, actively engaging in forums and scouring for any tidbits about Silksong. Since the delay announcement, little has been shared about the game's progress, except that the developers are diligently working on it.
