Recent reports suggest a potential April 2025 launch for Nintendo's Switch 2, although Nintendo remains focused on maximizing sales of the current Switch model.
A "Summer of Switch 2" in 2025?
Industry whispers place the Switch 2's release no earlier than April 2025. GamesIndustry.biz, citing conversations with developers, reports that developers have been advised to not expect a launch within the current fiscal year (ending March 2025). Many hope for an April or May launch, aiming for an early, rather than late, release next year.
This timing might strategically avoid a clash with other major releases, such as the anticipated "GTA 6," speculated for a Fall 2025 release. Adding fuel to the fire, journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe suggests a pre-August announcement from Nintendo, as reported by BGR. This aligns with Nintendo's stated intention to announce the Switch 2 before the end of their fiscal year (March 31, 2025). However, official confirmation remains pending.
Nintendo's Stock and Switch Sales Dip
image via Google Finance While Nintendo's Q1 FY2025 financial results show a year-on-year decline in Switch hardware and software sales (-46.4%), selling 2.1 million units in Q1, the overall picture remains positive. The company sold 15.7 million Switch units in FY2024, exceeding its forecast of 13.5 million.
Nintendo reports over 128 million annual active users for the Switch family of systems (July 2023 – June 2024), demonstrating continued engagement. Despite the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo remains committed to maximizing both hardware and software sales for the current Switch, projecting 13.5 million unit sales for FY2025.
