In a recent appearance on the Mythical Kitchen YouTube channel, the legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk revealed exciting developments for the 25th anniversary of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise. "I've been talking to Activision again, which is insanely exciting. We're working on something—This is the first time I've said that publicly," Hawk shared. While keeping further details under wraps, he assured fans that the plans would be "something the fans will truly appreciate."

The original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was released on September 29, 1999, and was published by Activision. The series achieved immense commercial success and spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs over the years. In 2020, fans were treated to a remastered collection of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 (THPS1+2). Hawk also mentioned that there were initial plans to remaster Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4.

However, the remaster project, developed by the now-defunct studio Vicarious Vision, was unfortunately canceled. During a Twitch stream in 2022, Hawk expressed his disappointment: "I wish I could say we have something in the works, but you know Vicarious Visions kind of got disbanded and Activision’s going through all their stuff. I don’t know what’s next." He further elaborated, "That was the plan, up until the release date of [1+2] we were going to do 3+4 and then Vicarious got absorbed and they were looking for other developers and then it was over."

Additionally, they announced a sweepstakes giveaway for the Collector's Edition of THPS1+2 remastered.

The recent announcements have fueled speculation that a new Tony Hawk game might be on the horizon, potentially aligning with the 25th anniversary celebration. There are whispers of an announcement during a rumored Sony State of Play event this month. While nothing has been confirmed, and Hawk has not specified whether it will be a new installment or a revival of the canceled remaster project, the excitement among fans is palpable.
