To unlock the crafting recipes necessary for upgrading your weapons in *Atomfall*, you'll first need to acquire the Gunsmithing skill. This skill falls under survival skills and requires you to delve into the Crafting Manual to learn. While tracking down these skill books can be a challenge, there's a straightforward method to obtain this particular one.

Morris Wick at the Village Shop in Wyndham holds a copy of the Crafting Manual, but acquiring it from him isn't as simple as trading. It involves some cunning blackmail. Upon entering St. Katherine’s Church, you'll uncover the recent murder of Maisie, and the Vicar's attempt to hush it up. Further investigation will lead you to evidence that implicates Morris. You can find this crucial evidence in the Brewery Cellar at coordinates 30.5 E, 80.5 N in the west of Wyndham Village. Enter through the cellar door by the ruined building, and search until you find and read the note titled "Kill the One They Call Maisie".

With this evidence in hand, head back to Morris' Village Shop at 33.3 E, 79.9 N. Engage in dialogue that pressures Morris without overt threats until you reach the "Bargaining" option. Choosing this will persuade Morris to hand over the Crafting Manual in exchange for your silence on his crime.

Alternatively, the Crafting Manual can be found in the D Section of The Interchange, though this route is significantly more challenging and time-consuming.

After obtaining and reading the Crafting Manual, you'll need to invest 7 Training Stimulants to acquire the Gunsmith skill, unlocking the recipes for crafting upgraded weapons. This investment is substantial but rewarding, so ensure you scavenge B.A.R.D. structures like Bunkers and The Interchange for the necessary skill points.

With the Crafting Manual and Gunsmith skill in your arsenal, you're ready to craft weapon upgrades. Upon acquiring a weapon, you'll unlock the recipe to craft its next highest tier, progressing from Rusty, to Stock, and then to Pristine. To upgrade a weapon, you'll need two of the same weapon from the previous tier, along with specific amounts of Gun Oil and Scrap. These requirements can vary, so keep that in mind.

For instance, upgrading the Falkirk Battle Rifle to Pristine requires 2 Falkirk Battle Rifle (Stock) items, 3 Gun Oil, and 6 Scrap. You can find Gun Oil and Scrap primarily at military installations like Protocol Camps. If you're planning to upgrade weapons frequently, consider investing in the Deep Pockets survival skill to increase your capacity for carrying crafting supplies.

Upgrading a weapon to Pristine for the first time will earn you the 'Make do and mend' Achievement or Trophy, a testament to your crafting prowess.

*Atomfall* is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass.
