World of Warcraft has temporarily delayed the launch of its highly anticipated second Plunderstorm event due to unexpected technical problems. While the goal remains to launch Plunderstorm before the end of January 14th, players will need to exercise a bit more patience than initially expected.
Plunderstorm, a popular pirate-themed battle royale mode introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, was slated for a return on January 14th, 2025, promising both returning and brand-new rewards.
Unfortunately, unforeseen complications arose during the rollout. The initially scheduled six-hour maintenance period was extended to eight hours, with servers planned to return at 3 PM PST. However, a WoW community manager, Kaivax, announced further delays due to "unexpected issues." While Blizzard aims for a launch before the end of January 14th, no firm estimate is currently available.
Regular WoW servers are now back online. Players eagerly awaiting Plunderstorm can occupy themselves with Siren Isle weeklies, the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or other activities within the War Within.
This second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces new features, including the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible while logged in. These additions may be contributing to the current issues. Hopefully, Blizzard will resolve these quickly to allow players to resume their plundering adventures.
Despite the game mode delay, the new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops are active. Watch four hours of any World of Warcraft streamer on Twitch before February 4th at 10 AM PST to earn the Coward's Azure Target back transmog. The streamer doesn't need to be playing Plunderstorm, allowing players to earn this reward while waiting for the event's return.
