Get ready for a blast from the past! Warframe: 1999 is coming, and it's bringing a retro-futuristic adventure unlike anything you've experienced. This massive update plunges you into a 1999 prologue this August, setting the stage for a thrilling journey through a Techrot-infested city teetering on the brink of a Y2K apocalypse. Prepare for a whole new level of style and flair, too!
TennoCon 2024 was a whirlwind of excitement, and Warframe: 1999 was the undisputed highlight. Before the main event arrives, a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launches in August 2024. Reuniting you with a beloved Warframe character, this quest builds upon "Whispers in the Walls," introducing the world of 1999 and the powerful Sevatgoth Prime and their exclusive weapons. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" (and all preceding quests) is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999, slated for a Winter 2024 release. So, get ready!
Warframe: 1999 transports you to an alternate 1999 Earth, where the Y2K bug isn't just a glitch—it's a deadly virus threatening global annihilation. The setting? Höllvania, a vibrant 90s metropolis corrupted by Techrot. Navigate this neon-drenched landscape with the new Atomicyles, futuristic vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Leading the charge are six heroes, the Hex, each piloting a unique Protoframe—a Warframe showcasing the human within.
The Hex team boasts a stellar cast, including Arthur (Excalibur), Aoi (Mag), and Quincy (the brand-new CYTE-09). CYTE-09 will also find its way to the Origin System, sporting a stylish beret. The team is brought to life by an incredible voice cast featuring Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler.
Adding to the 90s nostalgia, you'll face off against On-lyne, a fiendishly catchy 90s boy band infected by the Technocyte Coda. Led by the charismatic Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides), their infectious tunes are available now on all major streaming platforms. Check out their hit single, "Party of Your Lifetime!"
Fashion is key in Warframe: 1999. The update introduces dual fashion frame loadouts, allowing you to switch between styles on the fly. But the real game-changer? Gemini Skins! Equip these skins on Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi and bring them into the Origin System. These skins feature fully voiced dialogue, adding even more depth to the already impressive voice acting. It's a fantastic way to make the most of the stellar cast and enjoy characters with faces.
Beyond the main event, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE animation studio on a Warframe: 1999 anime short, launching later this year. And starting today, you can grab the stunning high-fidelity Heirloom skin for Ember, with a Rhino skin following in early 2025.
With Warframe: 1999 arriving this Winter, now's the perfect time to jump into the action. Download Warframe today from the App Store!
